Misery and Pop Music

What came first?
The Music or the Misery?

People are worried about kids playing with guns or watching violent videos. That some sort of culture of violence would take them over.

Nobody cares about kids listening to thousands, literally, thousands of songs about heartbrake, rejection, pain, misery and loss.

Did I was listening to pop music because I was miserable?
Or I'm miserable because I'm listening to pop music?
